Yes. Couples therapy requires both partners to attend sessions together. Individual sessions may occasionally be used, but the primary work occurs with both partners present.
No. Medicare rebates are not available for couples therapy as both partners are present. However, individual therapy for relationship concerns is covered by Medicare with a GP Mental Health Care Plan.
Treatment duration varies based on relationship concerns. Some couples benefit from 6-8 sessions, while others engage in longer-term therapy (12-20 sessions). Your therapist will discuss expected duration during initial assessment.
